My name is Eleanor. I am 19 years old and just finished school at Western Culinary Institute Le Cordon Bleu in Portland, OR. I am graduating in the end of October with my Diploma in the Culinary Arts as well as my AA with a 4.0 GPA!. It is such a relief for me. I started culinary school a week after I graduated from high school (I was 17 at the time) and what a change it was; what a challenge. Suddenly I was thrown into a world full of master chefs, and my classmates were ages 20 to 45! It has made me grow so much, but I am so glad to move on and get my career started.
I did my culinary internship in at the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho, and I think I am staying here for now. I have lots of opportunity to expand and learn more in the culinary field.
Where does Barry fit in? Wherever I can find the time! It is so frusterating when I realize how long it can go without hearing his voice. I get so caught up now in my work, so focused or stressed, that I forget to unwind. But nothing is better than the feeling of getting a cup of tea and listening to Barry, while playing a game of Mahjong or something like that. I really have bonded with Barry over the last 2-3 years by listening to him while does housework or especially while doing my 1000 piece puzzles (Good Lord! I sound nerdy!). I love being able to put my whole mind into his music, as opposed to listening to him while reading or something. Then I have my mind on something else. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I have many passions, Barry being the greatest, of course. Music has been such a huge part of my life. I have been singing since I was 11, and singing professionally since I was 17. Barry has helped me so much. Just to have him in the car on the way to rehearsals, what a joy! Barry always perked me up after longs days, and he will continue to do so. Thank you, Barry!

Hope you had a nice easter as well. it was a very, very busy one like always. I had off all last week for Sprng break and I had off today too, but tomorrow it's back to reality, which sucks. I so don't want to go back to school. I'm waiting for a callback for a job, so hopefully that works out. :)
It certainly was a once in a lifetime experience. It was so, so awesome seeing everything that goes on behind the scenes on a show and how they film it and so forth. They had cameras EVERYWHERE. you couldn't breathe without being filmed. haha. And yes I saw Gordon and I spoke to him for a few seconds also. :) We weren't allowed to have cameras or anything though so all I have to prove that I was there and saw him is the TV episode. But oh no it doesn't sound weird at all! I watch the few progrmas he has on BBCAmerica all the time and have been to a few restaurants he has "revamped." One of them was actuall yin NYC the day before GMA. But I have learned a considerable amount about him and he definitely is one of the best chefs in the world in my opinion. It'd be awesome if he were to go to a restaurant in your area and you could get the chance to go. Reality TV is quite an experience though let me tell ya. haha.
Hope all is well and you're cooking up some yummy dishes. hehe. :)

Sorry I haven't written in like 3 centures, but between my internet going crazy and being beyond busy, I'm just all over the place. haha. Hope you have been well also. :)
But I get this question a lot well because...it is me! haha! In Feb. '08, that show Kitchen Nightmares wanted to do a show in a show a few towns over from me. And one of the show people contacted my mom and since she helped out pick the place, we were invited to come to one of the tapings. And well some drunk women was very rude to us and you saw what happened. I'm usually not like that, but I'm the type of person when you piss me off enough and hurt somebody I love, I'll go right back at you. But that's so funny you were watching it and it just happened to be my episode. Yeah...my 15 mins. of fame. haha.

I'm sorry but I forgot to bring the Halekulani Popover recipe with me yesterday afternoon. I have to go back home this afternoon, so I'll pack it and bring it back to sister Arline's house on Friday evening. And now I feel like making break pudding!!!! Yum yum! Can't wait to get to Las Vegas and have some of their delicious hot bread pudding! The Main Street Hotel/Casino serves it in the morning, and it goes out fast! Hard to find delicious bread pudding in anywhere, even in Hawaii. Unless I make it myself, from a co-worker's recipe.
Talk to you again later. PLEASE let me know about your Manilow show coming up. I hope you have a great time and don't forget to breathe! Yes, Barry is VERY HANDSOME in person and he just takes your breath away! Where are you sitting?
I'm sitting under the catwalk in June, 2009. Hope he doesn't do that crotch thing and look down at us at the same time again. Really embarrassing because he wasn't smiling when he had his hand on his crotch and was looking at us! I WASN'T STARING AT HIS CROTCH! I was looking at his handsome face!
Loves from Hawaii,
Lillian r.
Always nice to hear from you: another bread pudding and Barry Manilow lover!
I'm using my sister Diane's PC right now, so I can't send the Halekulani Popover recipe right now. As soon as I get to sister Arline's house and my new laptop, I can transmit the recipe. It's been a while since I made popovers. And that recipe is delicious!!!! The Halekulani Hotel is a very high class, expensive hotel here. They have a "Vera Wange" suite, which goes for $5,000.00 a night, and there is a long waiting list. I have no idea what's in the suite. It probably comes with your own butler?
Hey, you know you could apply to be a chef for Barry Manilow. Western is a VERY well-respected culinary school and only has the best graduates! And you're one of them!!!! Think about it. Barry likes to have dinner with his friends and you know how to prepare meals for large parties or scale it down to just four or five. Find out what kinds of food he and his friends like.
Stay out of the sun! You are too young to turn into a prune! Use the tanning spray that Tyra Banks uses on her legs. It works well and doesn't turn your skin orange, like the old-fashioned kind.
I just purchased my June, 2009 show ticket to see Barry. I'm hoping and praying that the show is not cancelled at the last minute again. That was a real heart breaker for me last March. I try to buy two separate show tickets to be on the safe side, but can't afford to do it now.
You're going to have such a great time at his show! And if possible, let someone else do the picture-taking so you don't miss a second of that Handsome Man! His show is just fabulous! It moves so fast! And don't forget to stop in the Tempo after the show. (just in case Barry drops by)
I'll talk to you again later this evening.
Love & Aloha,
Lillian r.
If you're in Vegas, try the bread pudding at the Main Street Hotel/Casino. Devine!
The recipe calls for day old bread, but I always use fresh bread. I was going to add walnuts, but a co-worker told me not to fool around with the recipe. The vanilla and sherry makes it sweet. I never had any leftovers for dessert after dinner. And yes, I would love to find out how to cut the Halekulani Popover recipe down . 18-eggs is a bit much. I think I could serve all of Barry's employees with one serving!Do you belong to the BMIFC? That is how I got an e-mail from Starz.biz, telling me to send in my name and member number to see if I would be selected to attend Barry's QVC show on Nov 20, 2008. Boy was I surprized when I got a confirmation e-mail! Especially because I thought I wouldn't be in Hawaii to tape the show, and then I didn't know that Barry and his group were going to perform for us. I thought Barry would just stand behind a counter and talk about the 80's CD and take phone calls. What a wonderful surprize when his whole band appeared on the stage and his backup singers came on too!!!! I had a camera man sitting right in the back of me. It was really exciting!
You made me laugh so hard when you said that Barry would be 77 when you are 30! My ex-husband is 17-years older than then me, but I'm 58. Remember how young Mia Farrow was when she married Frank Sinatra? I thought it was so romantic. And I do hope Barry will still be peforming at 77. He is a sexy fox at any age!
Have you been in the Tempo a the Las Vegas Hilton? I know you're under 21, but I don't drink, so I think we could both get in, just to sit at a table and look for Barry, if he walks in. Pepsi is fine with me.
It's getting on those darn high bar stools that trip me up.
My sister Diane is still trying to get a date set for our Las Vegas trip. First it was November, then June and now May. My brother-in-law can't make up his mind, and my sister has end-of-month closings to take care of at work, so she has a tight schedule. I'm hoping that Barry will decide to extend his Hilton contract to 2010 or 2012, just to give us time to save for the trip/shows and if we can't make it this year.
Eleanor, if you have a chance to see Barry, PLEASE GO! Barry is so HANDSOME in person and up close! And charming!
This new laptop is wonderful! I can real your message without straining my eyes! And I'll be able to read your instructions on how to reduce my popover recipe!!! I feel like making bread pudding!!!!
Have a great weekend! Listen to "No Other Love". Very romantic and relaxing to fall asleep to.
ManiluvsU!

I was looking at my Manilow show tickets from 2007, and the first time I saw Barry was Feb. 14, 2007 and the second time was Nov. 14, 2007. Were you at the Nov 14, 2007 show too?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my sister will be well enough to travel to Las Vegas this year. I'm anxious about the show tickets! The seats I want are available now, but next month............??????!!!!!!! STRESS!!
I'll work on my tax returns to keep me busy in the mean time.
I told my brother-in-law's nephew (his parents helped him purchase a family owned saimin restaurant two years ago) about Western Culinary and he was very impressed. I lent him the video the school sent me, and he passed it on to his friends, who also are in the food preparation business. Lane (nephew) likes to prepare Japanese dishes and had wanted to study in Japan, but now that he has this restaurant, he can prepare his own dishes.
We have a culinary school here in Hawaii, but I don't think it's as good as WCI. Wish I had thought about attending culinary school while I was still in high school.
I used to make "Halekulani Popovers", but it required so many eggs and I didn't know how to reduce the recipe, so my husband (I'm divorced now) thought I was planning to serve the Navy Fleet. I stick to bread pudding now.
I've been trying to get to the "photo" section on the Manilow site, but my laptop keeps getting stuck. Probably the whole fan club all trying to sign on at the same time.
If you get to see Barry soon, please let me know how the show was.
Maniloves,
Lillian r.
I have access to my laptop only from Wednesday to Sundays, so I wasn't able to respond to your friend request until tonight. I'm glad to be on your friend page.
I was thinking of attending Western Culinary Institute a few years ago. But due to a hip and leg injury, I was told I wouldn't be able to go through the program. Congratulations on graduating from a very prestigious school! Your parents must be so proud of you! And how great to be doing something you really love! THAT is a CAREER!
I always fall asleep listening to Barry on my portable CD player with my earphones. This week it's been "Singin With The Big Bands" and "If I Should Love Again". (I forgot to pack my CD player this afternoon, so I have to try and fall asleep without Barry's voice in my ears tonight. I feel withdrawal symptoms starting already!!!!) The only time I don't listen to Barry at bedtime is when I'm in Las Vegas to see him perform, but that's only twice a year, IF I'm lucky.
Have you already seen Barry's show this year? I'm waiting for my sister Diane to let me know if and when we can go to Las Vegas this year. I told her I have to check if my "regular" seat at the Hilton theatre is available before she can book our travel tickets.
Your
I love your page! It's really easy to read and gentle on my eyes. My laptop is burning out, so the screen shakes and has shadows, and now, green and read lines blinking all over the screen too.
You may get to meet some famous people in your job. The Jazz Festival attracts a a lot of celebrities. Look for Barry and other celebs!
Have you seen Barry perform this year? I have my fingers crossed that I can see him again this year. It's something exciting for me to look forward to, as I don't get out much.
I'll talk with you again soon.
Maniloves!

I'm glad you like my photos of Barry. The pic of me in the solid red dress was taken 4/10/08, the pic of me in the red & white jacket was taken 6/27/08, and the pic of me in the white & black jacket during a Plat meet, was taken 4/27/07.
I agree with you about Barry. He's 65 in the most recent pic and looks 40! If he keeps looking younger with every passing day--pretty soon I'll look old enough to be his mother--and I'm YOUNGER than Barry! Guys always look better than women through the aging process---just isn't fair. I've often wondered if he has an aging painting of himself somewhere, tee hee.
Glad you kept in touch!
