Hello Karen!
The weather is much drier this weekend. I'm on the west side of Oahu right now, Aiea. I live in Manoa Valley, which is located in east Oahu. We have a lot of rain there (and sometimes, when the Manoa stream overflows, some cars get washed down the street.) We can't go out, as my Nissan Sentra is too small and too low to the ground (no brakes when the water is high). But so far, this year, we've been okay in Manoa Valley. No one has been injured.
You are so right: the weather can change in an
instant, with no warning. That's the scary part: when you least expect it. I'm glad you survived Hurricane Katrina. I don't think anyone is going to forget that hurricane for a long time! And it's a good warning to us all: to be prepared!
I hope you're having a sunny and dry weekend. (carry an umbrella if you go out) And I hope Barry isn't appearing anywhere there is bad weather. (I was really looking forward to seeing him twice, in June. Now I have to wait and see if he'll extend his contract with the Las Vegas Hilton for 2010)
