Occupation Poet, physician, author, Lieutenant Colonel of the Canadian Expeditionary Force
Known for Author of In Flanders Fields
Lieutenant Colonel John Alexander McCrae (November 30, 1872 – January 28, 1918) was a Canadian poet, physician, author, artist and soldier during World War I and a surgeon during the battle of Ypres. He is best known for writing the famous war memorial poem In Flanders Fields.
He had died during the battle of Ypres and they found that poem amongst his belongings.
I thought you would like to know a little history of the poet that wrote this. My father was in World War 11 and the Korean War and my brother served in the Canadian Army for 21 years. I come from a long line of military relatives so I understand the importance of November 11th. Take care. Hope you day was good.
