Barry Manilow Tribute Acts...

Hi

Has anyone ever seen a Barry Manilow tribute act.

Here in the UK, we have many e.g. Elton John, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, Cher.

So I was wondering if any of you have ever seen a Barry Manilow tribute act, and if so, would love to hear what you thought about it.

If you haven't and there was one appearing in a town near you, would you go?

Hi Deborah,

My answer would probably be NO. Every time I have heard a person impersonate Barry it has made me squirm!
No on seems able to sing and put the feeling in his songs the way Barry does. May be I am odd that way but it makes me uncomfortable.
The "cant smile" show should be ok because its a story just using Barry`s music. (I hope)

Hi Brenda,

I've seen a few tribute shows, and the best one by far is a band called "The Beached Boys". Six very talented guys with amazing voices for all those lush harmonies and falsettos.

I probably wouldn't go either, but I am looking forward to "Can't Smile", and hope the leading man sounds like Barry, just like the leading man in Jersey Boys does.

Hi Deb,

Interesting question!!! A resounding and definite NO from me on all quarters.

I remember a TV show in the UK called "Stars In Thier Eyes" and in the first series they had a Barry sound/look alike on the show and he was neither!

Theres also a show recently called "The One And Only" and I watched it every week as they kept showing clips of Barry (the real Barry!) yet they never showed the full interview and I often wonder why and what happened to it. I know it was available online and I have seen it, but it never made it to TV.

Anyway, side tracked! On this show they had tribute acts and when they were mentioning the names of the people and the stars they were going to be I was hoping and praying that they wouldnt say one was going to be Barry. The title of the show "The One And Only" kind of says it all really doesnt it.........The One And Only.

Have not seen a tribute act advertised close to me and certainly wouldnt pay to go and see one. I dont like the idea of someone pretending to be Barry and making a living from it.

If you like that type of thing and its your bag and it doesnt bother you that someone is pretending to be someone they arent, thats ok - each to thier own but definitely not for me.....this maybe a little crude in explanation but I hope you get what I mean by this statement: When you have 100% beef at home you dont nip up the road to sample a fatty burger do you?

So, definite no - no for me, dont like 'em and never will! Theres only Barry who is any good at being Barry.

Hi, I am a big Barry fan and have been involved in music for years. I am about to turn 40 and need to change what I am doing.
I have done the clubs etc and sung the standards. But I was just 1 in a school of fish. I have decided to try as A Barry tribute starting from the new year.
I am also based in the Midlands, England.
I would appreciate any tips.
Cheers

I saw one at one of the last UK fan club conventions...sorry i thought he was awful!

The ladies seemed to like him though and i guess when the lights were down and you squinted he looked better.

Sorry if that upsets him (if he's reading) or the ladies who swooned over him, just not my thing

I was there too Alison and I had to hide under the table. The next time he turned up I was able to make a quick exit before the singing!!!! started. In fairness though I hate tribute acts regardless of who they are impersonating. As far as I'm concerned "aint nothing like the real thing"

i have seen one, it was my mums present for mothers day, and it was 10 mins from me in brentwood Essex. his name was Andrew warner and to be quitley honest he was the biggest load of crap going, ive been a fan for 20 years and i was embarassed to be apart of the show.

im a no big head and some of my lovely Manilow friends from USA and UK have heard me sing Manilow songs and they have really gave me praise. I understand people when they say the tribute acts dont put any emotion in their act as barry does. Im quite the opposite and i am planning which i have been for the past year now doing a tribute to the songs of his music so it's not an impersonation of him.

it's way to say thanks for the great memories and more for the years his given us. Ive got a show in November im doing and im doing the properly, not like Paul Barrie does which i cant stand either.

if anybody wants to hear a couple of my tracks then heres my email address : aaron_l_bates@yahoo.co.uk

hope to hear from you's soon

Hi Everyone,

To be honest, nobody can take Barry off 100% because besides being one in a million, nobody can quite get that refined Brooklyn accent that Barry has.

The only person I have ever heard take him off and almost got the accent right was Bobby Davro. He took the micky out of Barry on one of his shows, he sat at the piano singing Mandy and his arms grew longer and longer. I don't know if anyone remembers that.

I think that might be why we don't see anyone take him off, because frankly nobody can!!!
